Go Wild With Weaving

Go Wild With Weaving is a small operation, based in Golden Bay, New Zealand.  2021 will be the eighth event, offering two-day weaving courses encouraging newcomers and experienced folk to come along, learn new weaving skills, meet new people and have fun.  The 2021 dates will be Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th AND Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st April 2021.

Willow course for beginners 

DATE: 12 and 13th September 2020, Please contact me Nicola.basham@xtra.co.nz if you want to be kept informed.
TIMING: Saturday 9.15-5.00, Sunday 9.00-4.30
VENUE: Pakawau Community Hall, Pakawau, Golden Bay.

WHAT WILL WE MAKE: Normally for beginners I suggest a small basket with a handle followed by a tray or a platter. 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN. You will get to grips with basic basketry techniques, understand a little about the willow industry, growing and harvesting willow, take home some beautiful, strong, environmentally friendly treasures, meet like-minded folk and have some fun. 

COST: $250 including materials. $50 deposit , $200 paid on the day.

WHAT TO BRING. Your lunch, flexibility and a sense of experimentation and humour.

 

Living Willow

Living Willow can be used for planting out your own willows, or to create pergolas, tunnels or playhuts. 

The next harvest and availability of stock will be June 2021.

Weave now!

I have supplies of willow for use in your projects, available at $24 per kilo plus transport.  I have four different varieties and sized from 2-6 ft.

Thursday 5th November 9.30-4.00pm.  $110
Friday 6 November 9.00am – 12.30pm     $60   
Saturday 7 November 9.30am – 4.00pm     $110
 

At the Friday morning workshop you’ll make a willow platter, using basic willow weaving techniques to give you a real feel for the craft.

On Thursday and Saturday, make beautiful baskets with driftwood and cane using a random weave technique. Each basket is as unique as the driftwood.
